This is very near the site where William Penn stepped off his ship in the Delaware River, and came ashore to claim his land (Pennsylvania) which had been deeded to him by King George, in settlement of a loan made by his deceased father to the King. Later, these southeastern counties of Pennsylvania became Delaware.
